MEWA Principal's Announcements

The Metro East Web Academy provides a technology-rich 21st century learning model that ensures student success in a rapidly evolving learning, work, and community environment.
Our Teachers Hard at Work!!  See you all on March 31st!

Dear parents and students:

Three important notices for all students and families:

1)  April 16th is Virtual School Capital Day.  Please read more below and sign up!

2)  Smarter Balanced State assessments announcement below!

3)  As a result of recent student discipline issues at the MEWA campus and mandates required by our tenant agreement with Gresham Station, we will no longer allow skateboards, longboards, or scooters on campus or at the Gresham Station site including the adjacent parking lots and sidewalks!  Discipline consequences will be enforced.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

  • Smarter Balance State Testing!

Sign Up for Smarter Balanced Tests:
The Smarter Balanced testing season is here!  Beginning 4/7, every 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th grader is required to participate by the State of Oregon, and per the student enrollment agreement with MEWA/MEECA.  Please sign up now, make sure these are on your radar, and that you adjust your schedules as necessary to complete this requirement.

Format:
Each 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th grade student will need to complete two tests (math and ELA), each of which is composed of two pieces.
In addition, each 8th and 11th grade student will need to complete the OAKS science multiple choice test.

Time, Schedule and Sign Up:
While the completion time for each student will vary, completing all components of math and ELA will require an estimate of 4 hours each, for a total of 8 hours.
These must be completed over a span of 2 or 3 consecutive days, at the MEWA campus (1394 NW Civic Drive).  Please adjust your schedules as necessary to accommodate this requirement.

Practice Tests:
Students may access SB Student Practice Tests here, and are encouraged to attend scheduled test prep session at MEWA to prepare!

"State testing is required by the State of Oregon.  It's important to complete these, and we will support you in every way that we can.  You should attend one of the practice sessions to prepare, too!  Remember, completing them is part of your enrollment agreement for MEWA/MEECA.  Please sign up now, and be well rested on the day of the test, and be on time.  You can do this!"

Thank you, everyone!

There are upcoming legislation bills that could have a negative impact on charter schools and one bill is a direct hit on funding and virtual schools.  One way to help support our voice in legislation is for parent and community participation to strengthen our (virtual schools) presence at the capitol.
To create change here is what works:
  • Parents calling, writing, or personal contact with THEIR legislator
  • Students sharing their experiences and stories
