Principal Message

Our Mission:
The Metro East Web Academy provides a technology-rich 21st century learning model that ensures student success in a rapidly evolving learning, work, and community environment.

A Message from the Principal/CEO:

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:

This year, we will have some new components to our program.  Soon after registration occurs, we will be able to accept your credit/debit cards in our office to pay for fees and deposits  – we will soon have the ability to take these cards on our website.  We have a new app that you will be able to download to your smart phone that will give you access to calendars, alerts and notifications, staff contacts, photo galleries, the principal’s message and many other options.  Our students will also be able to participate in the school lunch program offered through Gresham Barlow School District this year.  You will hear more about all of these new innovations at registration.

Additionally, to help our parents and students be successful in our program, we have employed a Parent Resource Advocate and a Community Development Coordinator that will work to support each and every family.  Please introduce yourself to Nichole Steele and Debi Lorence when you come in for registration (Please see note below from Nichole and Debi).  As engagement has been an issue in the past with a majority of our students, MEWA will have a new requirement this school year that each student will complete one assignment per course enrolled, each week.  This requirement must be met to continue enrollment in MEWA.  We are also going to ask our parents to help us and support this new requirement for their student by acting as a MEWA partner learning coach.  The involvement required will be to make a short data entry into our system each week. You will learn more about this process during registration.

Enrollment requirements:
  • check out computers if needed (if you qualify, please bring your Free/Reduced letter from your       home school district. You can find the link to the application on your home school district             website.  GBSD sent letters and applications to each family through the mail – please bring the       application with you to registration.
  •  take pictures for ID cards (the school will take these)
  •  parent and student handbook signature page (available online)
  •   registration paperwork will need to be signed before turning in to our office
  •   as part of the state requirements, we will need the following from each family and student:

o   proof of residence (utility bill [phone bills are not accepted], rental agreement, house payment stub or receipt
o   cell phone number that accepts text messages
o   home, cell, and work phone numbers for each parent/guardian
o   emergency contact phone numbers for each student

A parent/guardian is required to attend for any student under the age of 18, in order to sign documents and complete computer check-out forms.

Our web academy classrooms are available for open lab time Tuesday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Friday and 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon.  Off- campus meetings can be arranged with your mentor as well.  Classes begin September 2nd .  Teacher hours, the school calendar, registration materials, and other helpful information can be found at our website:  www.mewebacademy.org  and on our new app.

Note from Debi (Community Development Coordiantor) and Nichole (Parent Resource Advocate):

Both Debi and Nichole are excited to meet everyone, we have many activities and events planned but look forward to the feedback of parents and students. We have set parent/family group meetings twice a month, the 2nd Wednesday of the month 9-11 am and the fourth Thursday of the month 6:00-7:30 throughout the school year.
Refreshments will be provided!

We will begin this month with Parent Launch and Parents as Learning Coaches. Come prepared with questions, we will give extra support in familiarizing parents to our genius system, logins, parent weekly check ins, among many other topics.

We want parent/family feedback, let us know what your thoughts and interests are. We will continue to plan groups based on your interests and needs. We will have many guest speakers throughout the year as well as many field trips out and about within the community!
