As many of you know, school teaches much more than Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.  There are many important skills that a student needs to know to compete in future job markets.  Please enjoy the article I have provided for you below:

Announcements:

  • Join us for our 1st field trip of the year!  We'll travel to one of Bonneville's labs in Vancouver, WA to check out the High Voltage Lab, the Mechanical Testing lab, and visit with "Dr. Science" who shares little-known facts about electricity.  The location is rarely open to the public and because BPA needs security clearance, sign-ups must happen by October 7th so sign up early to save your spot!  Cost for this field trip:  FREE!  We'll leave school @ 11:15 and return by 3:30.   Check your school email account to sign-up.  Sign-ups due by 10/7.
  • The Portland National College Fair is October 23rd and 24th at the Oregon Convention Center.  It is free to students and parents!  For a list of schools that will be at the fair please visit:

  • College Now:
    Writing 121 students, remember we will have a face-to-face meeting on October 9th. Look for more information through the announcements in your class. 
  • iUrbanTeen STEAM Event at MHCC

Do you have an interest in a technology career?  In Gaming? In Animation? This free event is for you!
Come explore a hands-on, fun-filled day of cool workshops, thought provoking discussions, and interaction with new people.  This is a great opportunity to learn and network with industry professionals and have a great time doing it!  Come join us at the free I-Urban Teen Tech Summit at Mt. Hood Community College on Saturday October 10th 10:00 - 3:00.  There will be free snacks, lunch and chances to win cool prizes throughout the day.  Mt. Hood Community College is located at 26000 SE Stark St. Gresham, OR 97030.

  • eAspire is a mentorship program for high school students who are interested in learning about educational and career opportunities. Students who sign up for the program are paired with a mentor who is trained in helping students with college applications, financial aid paperwork, vocational training opportunities and more.  Student who apply must be in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade and be able to communicate using email.  If you are interested in the program please contact Brian Baker at 503-258-4796 for more details.

    If any parents are interested in attending or supporting the MEWA Parent Club this year, please contact me or attend this next Tuesday October 6th at 10:00am (refreshments will be provided). Bring your ideas, feedback, questions, or just come spend time connecting with other MEWA parents/families.

    We can now accept payments via PayPal for fees or donations.  If you would like to donate to our school, we use the money to pay for scholarships and activities such as field trips, incentives, and other extras that we provide our students and programs. As we are a 501 (c) (3), all donations are tax deductible and we will furnish you with a letter with our federal tax ID #.
