ParticiPizza Party for Mentor Seminar!
Introducing our first school-wide competition to complete assignments: a pizza party will be awarded to the mentor group that has the best turn-in percentage for this month’s Mentor Seminar assignments. Starting with Week 6 - Study Habits and going through Week 9’s Netiquette assignment, whichever mentor group that turns in the highest percentage of these assignments will win!
Remember, the Mentor Seminar class is required for all students, but it awards elective credit only if you complete it. Part of each assignment is to respond to 2 of your classmates’ posts, so make sure you’re completing that part as well :)
Good skill! (because luck has nothing to do with it)

Doyle Gates stopped by to talk Google Chrome extensions with Mr. Ellsberg Wednesday. Students now have these tools to help them with their daily work at MEWA. Click here for video!

Come join the live English sessions at school! Every other Thursday from 9-11. This week we worked on Comma Rules!

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:

This year we are requiring parents to log in to our parent check-in link and record whether or not their student has met the minimum number of assignments (one assignment per course per week) for the week.

Here is a our Parent Weekly Check-In Instructions once more!

New Requirement:
Every week parents will complete the “parent weekly check-in” accessible on the MEWA website under the Parent Resource Page. It is a “live form” that asks for your name, the student/s name, and whether your child/s has completed the MINIMAL requirement for the previous week.

The MINIMAL requirement, is at least 1 assignment per class per week. The parent weekly check in needs to be completed by Monday for the previous week, we understand some students may work through the weekend.

How - by participating in competitions, attending leadership conferences and much more.  MEWA is launching our first DECA chapter and we're looking for members - could that be you?  Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 16th at noon in the school's conference room.  Please contact Ms. Norrander if you are interested.

DECA Video

We're excited to announce our newest club, Gaming Clubevery Tuesday at 3pm.

We'll be talking about games of all kinds (boards, cards, and video games), and we'll run a Magic: The Gathering league starting in October - you won't need any cards to participate. In addition Josh has some contact with Riot Games, and with enough interest in League of Legends we'll be able to get tournament sponsorship!  So come on out to the MEWA building for Gaming Club, Tuesdays at 3pm!

Mr. Barrentine will be running the Magic: The Gathering and other card/board games, and our new tech guy, Joshua Sanstrum, will be our video game lead! Mr. Ellsberg is planning to stop by as well - we hope to see you there!

Also happening this year, the weekly Cosmos Viewing Party!
Every Thursday at 3pm you can join Mr. Barrentine to watch an episode of Cosmos with Neil Degrasse Tyson and talk science - join us!
In October students have the opportunity to take the PSAT.  The PSAT is a multiple-choice test taken by about 3.4 million high school students every year and it includes math, critical reading and writing questions.  It's a great way to get ready for the SAT and ACT exams.  Either the SAT or ACT is required for admission into 4 year colleges and universities.
So, if you're a MEWA student and want to sign up for the PSAT here's what you do:
Where:  If you live in the Gresham HS boundary sign up at the Bookkeeper's office at Gresham HS.  If you live in any other high school boundary go to Sam Barlow HS and sign up at their Bookkeeper's office.
When:  Go sign up next week (September 29th-October 3rd).  The PSAT test will take place on Wednesday, October 15th in the morning.  Get specific information about the test date from the school you sign up at.
How Much?:  The cost of the test is $14, but the State of Oregon pays the cost for 10th graders.
If you have any questions please contact your MEWA school counselor.
eAspire Update:
