Principal's Message

Our Mission:
The Metro East Web Academy provides a technology-rich 21st century learning model that ensures student success in a rapidly evolving learning, work, and community environment.

A Message from the Principal/CEO:

DECA student meeting with Ms. Norrander! See announcement below.

MEWA is a special school with passionate teachers and students.  The following excerpt was written by one of our students from a reflection assignment in our mentor program:

"I can't believe how close I am. I remember feeling hopeless, like I would never get it done, but here I am now so close to the finish line. The more days pass the more work I get done and the closer I get. I have been working on school work everyday and making sure I do good on the assignments so I get good grades. I am passing all my classes. This school was what I needed to succeed. I do get distracted or tired to the point where I can't do anymore school work, so I am not exactly where I wanted to be with school work as I was hoping. But it is not pulling me down too much, I still am doing good. I need to schedule a time to meet my counselor for senior meetings and also decide if I want to walk in Graduation or just receive my high school Diploma. "

This story can be told by many of our students.  We are proud of our students and the work they do to overcome obstacles on their way to graduation.  This is a partnership between students, parents, and MEWA staff.  We have many supports in place to support students and families.  Please give Parent Resource Advocate Nichole Steele a call (503-660-8413) or contact your mentor if your student or family need additional support.

  • Our first Field Trip of the year was full of excitement, many students arrived ready to go spend a day at Old McDonald's Farm in Corbett, Or.

Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc. (OMF) is the only nonprofit organization in Oregon that effectively combines animals, agriculture, gardens and natural resources to provide an educational enrichment program for all children and including at-risk children and youth in a safe and secure farm setting.

Students broke into groups and attended 8 different learning centers. We learned about various wildlife in this region as well as hands on interaction with wildlife on the farm. Here is a quick description of the package we attended...

The J.P. Morgan package of the Day Visit Program was designed to teach academic skills in the areas of: language arts (reading, writing and speaking), history (of our area and of farming practices), science (inquiry based learning, observation and data collection, environmental science, life cycles, animal husbandry, biology, and agriculture and garden studies), math (calculation, measurement and estimation), geography (location, regional information such as climate and terrain), and life skills (cooperative learning, conflict resolution, respect, safety, kindness and positive values).

We definitely added even more excitement by roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire for lunch. Students laughed & socialized with new and old friends. It was great to see such connection amongst students and staff. I think we all are looking forward to many more opportunities such as this where we can build connections, become involved with people whether in school, our local communities, or around the world.

Here is two pictures of the students and staff who came on our field trip to Old McDonald's Farm.....

  • ParticiPizza Party for Mentor Seminar!
Introducing our first school-wide competition to complete assignments: a pizza party will be awarded to the mentor group that has the best turn-in percentage for this month’s Mentor Seminar assignments. Starting with Week 6 - Study Habits and going through Week 9’s Netiquette assignment, whichever mentor group that turns in the highest percentage of these assignments will win!
Remember, the Mentor Seminar class is required for all students, but it awards elective credit only if you complete it. Part of each assignment is to respond to 2 of your classmates’ posts, so make sure you’re completing that part as well :)
Good skill! (because luck has nothing to do with it)
