MEWA Principal's Announcements

The Metro East Web Academy provides a technology-rich 21st century learning model that ensures student success in a rapidly evolving learning, work, and community environment.

Dear parents and students:

MEWA/MEECA Parents and Students -- Remember High School Graduation is June 8th at East Hill Church in Gresham, 7:00 PM!!

Parents and students, we need your help in filling out this short 8 question survey (7 questions for students).  It should take no longer than 5 to 10 minutes. This survey is a requirement from GBSD as part of our charter contract, annual charter evaluation and is necessary for our continued AdvancEd accreditation. In last year's charter evaluation from the district, it was determined that we did not have enough parent and student participants in the survey, so please take a moment and complete the form. Students,
It's that time of year again!  MEWA Spring MAPS Testing begins Tuesday, 5/19, and goes through 5/22.  This will be the final round, and after you complete it, you will be able to see how much you've grown and learned this year!  Remember, all students are required to participate as part of the enrollment agreement at MEWA/MEECA.  Remember, too, you can take all three tests on campus, during scheduled open labs, or from home!
Here are the steps:
1. Please sign up now, and put your session on your calendar so you don't forget!
2.  Review and access the Student Directions when you are ready to log in for your test session.
3.  Do you best, and remember to complete all three tests!
-MAP: Reading 6+ Common Core 2010 V2
-MAP: Language 2-12 Common Core 2010

-MAP: Math 6+ Common Core 2010 V2)

As parents and students are made aware of during the welcome meeting upon enrolling in our school, we require all students to participate in the MAP's assessment (For MEECA and GED students this year, we only want you taking the assessment if you participated in the fall or winter assessment - next year it will be a requirement for all MEECA, MEWA, and GED students) .  We asked that you sign an agreement stating that the student will participate.  This requirement is necessary for MEWA to demonstrate that students are learning in our school. Thank you for your participation! Below is a link to a document that reviews assessment requirements:

Upcoming --- Change to Trimester Schedule

Metro East Web Academy is excited to announce that it will be moving to a trimester schedule during the 2015-2016 school year.

The trimester schedule will allow students to possibly earn more credits throughout the school year. It will also allow us to clearly define holidays as well as areas of study in need of extra focus and attention.

We are thrilled to offer this change and believe it will be a good fit for our MEWA students.

  • First Trimester: September 8-December 17
  • Second Trimester: January 4-March 17
  • Third Trimester: March 28th-June 16th
The counselors have begun forecasting for next year, please contact your counselor to set up an appointment to discuss and plan your classes for next year!

More Info Coming Soon...

Summer School!!

It's hard to believe, but Summer School is coming up fast!  This year MEWA is offering both Credit Recovery and Original Credit in two 5-week sessions.  To find out what classes are available, and enroll in Summer School, visit the MEWA website and follow the tab for Summer School Registration.

All students enrolled in Summer School will have access to an open lab here on the MEWA campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10a to 2p, during all 10 weeks.  These labs will be staffed by a teacher and teacher assistants on both days.  These times are optional for students, but will provide additional support for those who may need it.

Researching Motivation at MEWA!
Students are being asked to participate in a research study for Scott Barrentine (Science teacher and new student launcher). We’re studying the most effective ways to motivate students! The data will be used for Mr. Barrentine's master's thesis at Portland State University and to improve teacher practices here at MEWA.
Parents: We can only use your student's data if you sign this parental consent form. Students will not be identifiable in any way in the research study, we’re only going to use their survey and assignments-completed data. Thank you for your support! If you have any questions you can contact Mr. Barrentine at
barrentine@mewebacademy.org or by phone at (97
1) 231-5428.
Students: All you have to do is complete 2 surveys and make sure your parents turn in the consent form! If you complete both surveys, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card to Best Buy, even if you don’t want to have your data used. Your first survey requires you to agree to participate - please follow this link to access the first survey.
The 2nd survey will be e-mailed directly to you around May 18th, so watch out for it because you must complete both surveys to win (even if you say 'no' to Mr. Barrentine using your data for his research study - the information will still be helpful and you can still win!).

  • Spring is here and students are riding their bikes to campus. We have a bike rack in the front of the building and locks if you need one. Ask Rachel or Hillary at the front desk.

  • Seniors: Graduation is on June 8th!

  • Time to get your pictures in for the graduation slide show. Even if you won't be walking, send in a current picture. Take 2 minutes, have a friend take a picture with their smart phone and text it to clayton2@mewebacademy.org

  • 8th Grade Promotion is June 8th at 5 pm at Easthill Church

  • Attention Seniors:
Math work samples are taking place every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4pm with Mrs. Riehl.

  • Community Gardening-- Earn Community Service Hours or Extended Study Are you interested in gardening, and want to earn some community service hours or extended study? MEWA needs help tending to our community garden plot this spring and summer! The garden needs an overhaul, so be willing to put in work and get a little dirty while you are giving back to the community. If you are interested in helping to plan and plant, contact Ms Hathaway.
  • It's time to start thinking about graduation on June 8th!  Most importantly, MEWA gives away two scholarships: We will draw one name from graduates in attendance the night of the ceremony for The Founders Scholarship of $1,000!  For students who attend our graduation practice earlier in the day of the ceremony, we will draw one name for The Keller-Sievers Scholarship Award of $500!
