MEWA Principal's Announcements

The Metro East Web Academy provides a technology-rich 21st century learning model that ensures student success in a rapidly evolving learning, work, and community environment.

Congratulations Isabelle for completing your diploma program!
We want to celebrate one of our students who demonstrated tremendous growth on the MAPS tests this year.  This student's MAPS tests demonstrate a growth of as much as 21 points in her learning between Fall 2014 and Spring 2015.

This is what MAPS is all about:  measuring, celebrating and honoring the tremendous learning that we know happens here at MEWA, everyday.  Thank you for all of your hard work students!

The Importance of Participating in MAPS Testing, Purposefully:

  • Valid test scores are important so that students, families, and educators have a true measure of the student's learning.  We want to support and celebrate student learning, and we want to give purpose and value to our existence as a school.
  • As we develop a supportive culture around testing, student scores will be added to their transcripts so that we can track and celebrate long term growth.
  • A decrease in student MAPS scores could unfairly indicate that MEWA is negatively affecting student learning.  Because it is important that we have an accurate representation of both the hard work students have done, and the achievements students have made during the year, growth scores of -5 or lower will be reassessed.  Students will be required to retake those tests for valid scores.
  • We require all students to take the MAPS tests seriously so that there exists an accurate representation of their learning.

Dear parents and students:

MEWA Parents and Students -- Remember High School Graduation is June 8th at East Hill Church in Gresham, 7:00 PM!!   Remember that MEECA and GED are part of the MEWA graduation!  Graduation practice is at noon at the East Hill Church.  The 8th grade promotion ceremony is at 5:00 PM at the East Hill Church.

  • It's time to start thinking about graduation on June 8th!  Most importantly, MEWA (Remember, MEECA students are MEWA students) gives away two scholarships: We will draw one name from graduates in attendance the night of the ceremony for The Founders Scholarship of $1,000!  For students who attend our graduation practice earlier in the day of the ceremony, we will draw one name for The Keller-Sievers Scholarship Award of $500!
  • Reminder Seniors (MEECA students are MEWA students):
If you still need the essential skill of math there will be only a couple more options for you to take these.
    They are:

    Wednesday, June 3rd 5pm to 7pm
    Saturday, June 6th 12pm to 2pm
Please RSVP to Mrs. Riehl @ riehl@mewebacademy.org or call/text to 503-489-7723
    • Time to get your pictures in for the graduation slide show. Even if you won't be walking, send in a current picture. Take 2 minutes, have a friend take a picture with their smart phone and text it to clayton2@mewebacademy.org.  This is for all MEWA students which include MEECA and GED students.
  • We want to thank all the parents and students for participating in our annual spring survey.  There were 151 students and 149 parents participating in the survey this year.  That is a record for MEWA!

Upcoming --- Change to Trimester Schedule

Metro East Web Academy is excited to announce that it will be moving to a trimester schedule during the 2015-2016 school year.

The trimester schedule will allow students to possibly earn more credits throughout the school year. This schedule will better align with the MHCC quarter schedule and will allow MEECA students to take advantage of MEWA College Now and other course offerings at MEWA!  It will also allow us to clearly define holidays as well as areas of study in need of extra focus and attention.

We are thrilled to offer this change and believe it will be a good fit for our MEWA students.

  • First Trimester: September 8-December 17
  • Second Trimester: January 4-March 17
  • Third Trimester: March 28th-June 16th
The counselors have begun forecasting for next year, please contact your counselor to set up an appointment to discuss and plan your classes for next year!

It's hard to believe, but Summer School is coming up fast!  This year MEWA is offering both Credit Recovery and Original Credit in two 5-week sessions.  All area high school students are eligible to enroll in summer school. To find out what classes are available, and enroll in Summer School, visit the MEWA website and follow the tab for Summer School Registration.

All students enrolled in Summer School will have access to an open lab here on the MEWA campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10a to 2p, during all 10 weeks.  These labs will be staffed by a teacher and teacher assistants on both days.  These times are optional for students, but will provide additional support for those who may need it.
